Story of the World-Vikings

Last year we did Story of the World- Volume 1 and this year we are doing Volume 2. We were studying the Vikings and I love the Draw and Write Through History books. That's what we used as our guide to draw the Viking Ships. They did an awesome job. It's so much fun to home school our children. 

History Late 1800's to Early 1900's

We took a tour at our local Late 1800's and Early 1900's Village. Our children thought that the school room was so cool. They have never been in a school before. They really did live a very different live then we do today. It makes me want to live in those days for the simplicity.

This is an item you won't see often these days,maybe in some churches.  An organ.

Could you imagine getting up in the morning and having to pump all of your water for showers,dishes,etc. I'm thankful for our water:)

The Church, the only thing is they didn't have a steeple on the top of the church. 

There were many other things we saw that day that were amazing. We had a great time going back into time!!!

We read all the facts about Navajos and then we made Navajo rugs.

I love that this book because it has a craft and a recipe for the Indian Tribe ( The Navajos).

In the old day, they used to sew pouches from buffalo hide and clothes from deerskin.

D Man made his sewed a felt pouch and then sewed beads on the felt bag, The beads are in Braille from a Helen Keller book he found.

Ducky sewed her bag also and she has a few beads that she sewed on her felt pouch.

Ducky Model Shield

DMan and Ducky made there very own Model Shield.

This protected them in battle.

We decided to take a break from Mystery of History and move on over to The Native Americans.  We were almost there anyways. I thought it would be a perfect time to study the Native Americans with Thanksgiving around the corner.

This book has some awesome crafts in it, with a story.

The Cheyenne

There tipi's were made out of buffalo hides.

This is our version of the tipi's with some decorations on it.

The Lakota

They harnessed a pair of tipi poles to a horse and between the poles is a platform made from willow saplings.

This is called a Travois.
