MASKING TAPE THREE STORY HOUSE/ HOBBIT HOUSE

I love this idea that I found on Almost Unschoolers Blog. First you use your masking tape to make the base of the house. I only had the thick one but it worked. But I'm sure the thinner one is better:)

Ducky, then made three stories in the house with furniture, blankets,tables, stairs and bathroom. Our daughter has several Calico Critters that she uses to play with this masking tape home. I love that she can use her imagination and you only need three simple items: Masking Tape, carpet and your mind. 

This is DMan's Hobbit house. It from the book The Hobbit. Hobbit means "comfort place" to relax, That sounds good to me!!!!

Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists-Monet

Claude Monet (French pronunciation: ​[klod mɔnɛ/mɔne]) (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926) was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature, especially as applied to plein-air landscape painting.^[1][2] The term Impressionism is derived from the title of his painting Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant).

Flower Two Litter Bottle Art

I saw this craft on Facebook and thought I would share. 

First save some two litter bottles for your flower design. 

Have child paint a stem or branch for there flowers. 

Take the two litter bottle and put end of bottle into the paint and then gently place on paper on one of the branches to make the flower.

Final result, they came out really nice. If you want to you can put more flowers on the branch.

Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists-Picasso

My friend Nicole @ Mama to 5 Blessings and I are doing an Art Co-op that we discovered on Confessions of a Homeschoolers Website. Our first Artist is Pablo Picasso, a very interesting Artist but great to learn about. 

Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, known as Pablo Picasso (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈpaβlo piˈkaso], 25 October 1881 – 8 April 1973), was a Spanishpainter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and stage designer who spent most of his adult life in France. As one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is widely known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture,^[2][3] the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

We first read to them about the Artist and then we draw and paint and use the different mediums that each Artists used during that time. We also talk about the style,technique,and mediums. We are using the Getting to Know the World's Greatest Artists books by: Mike Venezia. I really love these books, they are easy to use and very informative. 

We decided to draw and paint "The Three Musicians"

The medium they used was oil pastels.

Ducky takes these classes at a local art a studio. This picture is Pastel on Paper and then the picture is mated to board.

Discovering Great Artists-Giotto di Bondone

Giotto di Bondone (1266/7 – January 8, 1337), better known simply as Giotto, was an Italian painter and architect from Florence in the late Middle Ages. He is generally considered the first in a line of great artists who contributed to the Italian Renaissance.

Giotto's masterwork is the decoration of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, also known as the Arena Chapel, completed around 1305. This fresco cycle depicts the life of the Virgin and the life of Christ. It is regarded as one of the supreme masterpieces of the Early Renaissance

Giotto was known for his Egg Chalk Painting.

We bought chalk at Micheals, you want to use pastels if possible. It brightens the page.

Break off a pieces from the whole stick and crush in a zip lock bag to make powder.

Crushed chalk for your painting.

I used an egg carton to put the crushed chalk into.

Then I beat one egg up with two tablespoons of water to actually make the paint. Put egg mixture into chalk to finish the paint. We were wondering if Egg Chalk Paint would be glossy, and it was glossy on the paper, pretty amazing:)

Discovering Great Artists-Paul Klee

Paul Klee

Klee has been variously associated with Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism, and Abstraction, but his pictures are difficult to classify. He generally worked in isolation from his peers, and interpreted new art trends in his own way. He was inventive in his methods and technique. Klee worked in many different media—oil paint, watercolor, ink, pastel, etching, and others. He often combined them into one work. He used canvas, burlap, muslin, linen, gauze, cardboard, metal foils, fabric, wallpaper, and newsprint.^[60] Klee employed spray paint, knife application, stamping, glazing, and impasto, and mixed media such as oil with watercolor, water color with pen and India ink, and oil with tempera.^[61]

What we learned about Paul Klee is that when he drew he wouldn't lift his pen off the paper. Our children did this, it's not as easy as it sounds. Try it sometime. 

DMan decided to do connecting squares. Paul Klee used watercolor so we used our Water Color Pencils from Faber Castell to color it in and then paint.  

Ducky decided to do connecting swirls and then she used water color pencils.

Kool-Aid Paint

This summer we have been working art alot. A couple weeks back we did the Kool-Aid paint. I found the recipe on Pinterest. The recipe is:

1 Tablespoon of Warm Water

Containers

Mix all ingredients into bowls and you have some awesome paint and it smells good too.

Index Card Art

I found this website that is hosting Index Card Art for the months of June and July. Our children love it and I love it because it's easy to store. You can find the Daily Prompt and pictures each day of the Index Card Art at:
