Contenders-Woodburning

DMan wanted to practice before we did this skill. First he drew on the piece of board at Pumpkin from the book Draw Write Now.

Then he took his wood burner and burned the design of the pumpkin. Be careful, the tip is very HOT. Even the handle gets warm.

Finally he painted it, and then he gave it to his sister.

It came out nice.

This was the day, we did wood burning with our group. I bought a kit at Michael's. I found that kit was better because the boards were thinner and easier to burn.

Even girls can do this skill. Of course she did flowers.

They had tracing paper with the kit and then you follow the design for burn.
These would be nice for Christmas or for any gift.

Contenders-Pine Wood Derby

Our first skill for this school year was the Pinewood Derby. We were at Orlando Science Center and they had the Pinewood Derby, I was so excited because we missed the group getting together for the Pinewood Derby but we got to done it anyways.

DMan's Pinewood Derby Car- which we bought at our local hobby shop and DMan and his dad put it together. The Pinewood Derby Car came out awesome and DMan got to spend time with his dad which he LOVES!!!!!

DMan racing two cars at the Orlando Science Center. Learning about science in motion. This summer we did a Unit Study(Amanda Bennett) on roller coasters so DMan understood this concept so that was great to apply it.

Be on the lookout for our next skill.

Contenders-Friends-Hugs and Kisses

Hugs and Kisses, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that mentors students in
the business of creating trademarked fashion accessories — our patented button bracelets— that are used as fundraisers to help cancer patients in desperate financial need. Since our beginning in January 2009, thousands of people volunteered to help us – over 750 registered to be regular volunteers who’ve accumulated over 11,000 hours of community service.
All of our products are given as gifts for donations to our cause. Funds raised pay living expenses for qualifying cancer patients who have to choose to pay for an urgent living expense over treatment.

Thank you Suzy for all your hard work.

These are some of the bracelets that are made by volunteers.

Ducky sorting the buttons, both of our children loved this job.

D Man sorting buttons.

We had to find matches, here are some we did.

Now these are difficult to sort but they managed.

They have an aisle of just buttons that are sorted called Benjamin Buttons.

We went here for Contenders because we(the boys) as Contenders of the Faith need to help others and they are our friends to, even tough we don't know them. We are hear to help.

Some of the other things we are doing is praying for our friends, memorizing scripture, sending gifts to our friends.

I am a friend of God!!!!!
